Saudi Arabia launches world's largest coral reef restoration project

20240425

The project is jointly promoted by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and New Future City (NEOM). Plans are already underway to build a coral reef restoration center on the Red Coast, and a second one is under construction. The first center is expected to produce 40,000 corals and reach 400,000 by 2025.

KAUST and NEOM have also developed innovative conservation methods, turning the originally labor-intensive process into an industrial standard process that can be scaled up.
